Saturday, Road Trip to Meteora!
Mike and I hired a guide to take us to see the monasteries. It was a long day as it was a 4 hour trip to get there, but worth it. Our guide Theo was a talker so we learned all about Greece, culture, religion, his love of football, his team ARIS and his family.
Meteora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1989. The Eastern Orthodox monks
began construction estimated in the 13th to 14th century. It is near the town of Klabaka.
Originally there were 24 monasteries on top of the rocks. Today there are 6. All
materials had to be hoisted up by ropes and a pulley system.
Since it is deemed a spiritual and holy place, women must wear skirts and men must wear pants. We had to rent/buy pants and a wrap around skirt. I ended up taking my wrap around to the next stop so I didn't have to pay for another wrap. I felt it was messy and unnecessary, but we all complied. Many girls were wrapped in blankets, old towels, scarves and anything they could find in their luggage that would offer some cover! We saw one man with shorts on and we asked him how he got away without buying the pants, He said you have to pull your shorts down over your knees. My wrap around skirt to cover my LEGS!
Look at those sexy legs:)

Our guide, Theo was funny, informative and kind. I told him I wanted to bring our grandkids GREEK candy and asked him to point out some when we came to a rest stop. While we were eating lunch, he went and bought all of his favorite kind of Greek candy for us to bring home!
Our guide told us that this scene was used in the Game of Thrones series. He said they didn't come
there to film, but photo shopped the scene.
Dinner at Anmos on the Aegean.

I think they have those Ameretti's at Costco, but Claire does like them! That was nice of him to get all of that candy for the kiddos, as long as Papa doesn't eat it haha.
